Earth Day Celebration

Location: Labyrinth, Chase Park

Kick off Earth Day/Arbor Day Week with a reflection on all good things the Earth provides! (45 minutes)

Sunday, April 21st

Tree & Daffodil Walk led by Friends of Sylvan Gardens
Location: Sylvan Gardens

Join members of the Friends of Sylvan Gardens for a guided stroll along the paths of Sylvan Gardens to observe native trees and shrubs along with thousands of daffodils in bloom.

Note: An additional walk will be held at 2:00pm! Register directly with Friends of Sylvan Gardens.

Please join us at this special keynote event marking Earth Day!  Chatham Bars Inn and The Chatham Conservation Foundation are pleased to partner for a panel presentation highlighting the ongoing impacts of climate change on Chatham, and what every resident and visitor should know about the fragility of this special place.

Chase Park Tree Walk led by Friends of Trees
Location: Meet at Shattuck Place parking lot, Chase Park

Join members of Friends of Trees for a walk focusing on over two dozen noteworthy trees all contained within Chase Park in Chatham. The guides will introduce you to both older trees that have been in the park for decades as well as more recently planted specimens.

Movie: No Refuge: Cape Cod's Coastal Crisis

Location: Chatham Orpheum Theater

The story of how climate change transformed the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge at Morris Island and threatens the greater Cape Cod Coastal region.

Note: This movie will also be screened Wednesday - Friday at 11:00am.

Location: Downtown Chatham

Join members of the Friends of Trees for a walk following Main Street in Chatham to the Lighthouse where it loops back to town. The trail includes over a dozen of Chatham’s most notable trees.

Webinar: The Southern Pine Beetle and Cape Cod

Speaker: Sara Abbitt, AmeriCorps Member. Sara has been researching the spread of the Southern Pine Beetle across New England during her tenure as an AmeriCorps Member on Cape Cod.

Webinar: Tree Identification on Cape Cod
Did you realize Cape Cod is home to almost 40 species of native and naturalized trees? Learn how to recognize them in this online seminar with naturalist Tom Walker.

Speaker: Tom Walker has many natural history interests and leads walks and gives presentations on lichens, fungi, trees and dragonflies for many different Cape organizations.

Bring at least one slightly worn and clean spring tee, tank, sweater or layer and leave with as many pieces as you like!

Location: Meet at Mayo House, 540 Main Street, to be assigned route, gloves, safety vests and trash grabbers. Clean Up routes will be ~1 mile. Bring friends and family!
